Darvocet Drug Interactions
Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen interact with other medicines. Before taking Darvocet, let the physician know if you are taking:
- sedatives [Valium, Ativan]
- barbiturates or CNS depressants [Allobarbital, Butobarbital]
- muscle relaxants [Flexeril, Soma]
- anti-diarrheals [Imodium, Lomotil]
- anti-convulsants [Tegretol, Carbatrol]
- anti-anxiety drugs [Diazepam]
- tricyclic anti-depressants [Doxepin]
- psychiatric medicines [aliphatic phenothiazines such as Chlorpromazine]
- MAO inhibitors [Furazolidone, Isocarboxazid]
- other painkillers [Talwin]
- opioid agonist-antagonist analgesics [Nubain, Stadol]
- anti-bacterial medicines for TB [Nydrazid, Laniazid, Rifampin]
- anti-coagulants or “blood thinners” [Warfarin]
- urinary or bladder medications [Urispas, Vesicare]
- glycopyrrolate for peptic ulcers [Robinul]
- anti-cholinergic medications for ulcers [Cantil]
- bronchodilators [Atrovent, Spiriva]
- anti-spasmodic medication for stomach/intestines/bowels [Donnatal]
- irritable bowel medications [Anaspaz, Bentyl]
- anti-Parkinson/anti-cholinergic [Benztropine]
- anti-histamines that cause drowsiness [Diphenhydramine]
- Cholestyramine [reduces bad cholesterol and itching caused by blockage of bile ducts].
Before using Darvocet, check the prescription labels of all the medicines you have, to ascertain whether those contain Acetaminophen or Propoxyphene and, if they do, consult your physician whether it is safe for you to take those medicines alongwith Darvocet, or whether any dosage adjustment is required in your case. Do not begin or stop any medicine, neither attempt to adjust the dosage, on your own.
