Darvocet Description
Darvocet (ACETAMINOPHEN; PROPOXYPHENE) is used to treat mild to moderate pain and is a combination of two different types of pain medicine. Propoxyphene works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord while acetaminophen decreases the formation of prostaglandins, which relieves pain.
Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor. It may be taken with food if stomach upset occurs, however, the drug may not work as well. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about other ways to reduce stomach upset. Darvocet dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Pain medications work best if used when the first signs of pain occur. If you wait until the pain worsens, this medication may not work as well.
Use this medication exactly as prescribed. Do not exceed the maximum daily dose of propoxyphene napsylate. Do not increase your dose, take it more often or use it longer than prescribed because it can be habit-forming. If this drug is prescribed for an extended period of time, do not suddenly stop using it without your doctor's approval.
Federal law prohibits the transfer of acetaminophen; propoxyphene to any person other than the patient for whom it was prescribed. |
